The Southern California Water Coalition (SCWC) announces Haiku H2O, a creative campaign inviting Southern Californians to transform complex water issues into powerful 17-syllable poems during Water Awareness Month in May 2025.
Throughout May 2025, residents from eight Southern California counties can submit water-themed haikus via Instagram and Swell, using the hashtag #SoCalWaterHaiku. The initiative aims to engage communities in a unique dialogue about water resources, conservation, and sustainability.
“Water tells a story, and we want to hear it from every perspective,” said Charles Wilson, Executive Director and CEO of SCWC. “For us, this contest is a fun way to bring new people into the conversation about water.”
Weekly winners will be selected and featured on SCWC’s platforms, with a final Haiku Laureate chosen to represent the most compelling water narrative. Submissions are open to all Southern California residents and will be judged on creativity, relevance, and insight.
The contest is part of SCWC’s ongoing mission to educate and unite diverse stakeholders around water issues. With nearly 200 organizational members, the coalition continues to bridge gaps and foster innovative solutions.
